Erma Hunt's Testimony

Although I was raised knowing about Jesus, my venture into college life at the age of 17 put me on a course which led to near agnosticism. I developed the attitude that God was only for people who couldn't handle life on their own. That kept me running for success and denying failure for the next 28 years. When my marriage was on the rocks because my husband, David, began to follow God, I finally admitted that I could not do everything by myself.

My slightly unorthodox meeting with Jesus has lasted and grown for 20 years. I was driving down the Florida Turnpike (minding my own business!) when Jesus spoke to me very clearly saying, "You are acceptable to me just as you are." Now that was exactly what I needed to hear, since I was married to a man trying his best to follow the Lord and I was still running away. I stopped by the side the highway for approximately thirty minutes, and when I drove on I was a new creature in Christ. He was in control of the whole situation, for not one soul stopped to ask why I was sitting alongside the Turnpike. God was wonderfully gracious in revealing Himself to me, and has restored all the devil had stolen from me through the years.

My heart was changed when I was born again; but there were many old habits and thoughts which hung on for a long time ...too long. I realized daily how much I had compromised God's standards with those of the world's standards. I had a lot to re-learn. By reading God's Word repeatedly, the errors began to fall away. Even after 20 years, I still find some of those old ideas rearing up from time to time, but I know that God is faithful to complete that which He has started in me.

By 1978 David and I were in full time ministry, which has continued to the present time. Living and working for the Lord is indeed a blessing, and we joyously seek His continuing plan for our lives. - Erma Hunt
